INT. COFFEE SHOP - DAY

ALEX, a young man in his early 20s, sits at a table, nursing a cup of coffee. He looks lost in thought, his face etched with worry.

ALEX (V.O.)

I've never been one to believe in fate or destiny. I always thought that our lives were shaped by our own choices, our own actions. But now, I'm not so sure.

ALEX flashbacks to a week ago.

ALEX

I was driving home from work, when I saw a woman standing on the side of the road. She looked lost and scared, so I pulled over to help.

WOMAN

My car broke down. I don't know what to do.

ALEX

I'll take a look.

ALEX takes a look under the hood of the woman's car and quickly realizes that it's beyond repair.

ALEX

I'm sorry, but your car is done for. You'll need to call a tow truck.

WOMAN

I don't have a phone.

ALEX

I'll take you to the nearest gas station. You can call a tow truck from there.

ALEX and the woman drive to the nearest gas station. The woman thanks ALEX profusely and goes inside to call a tow truck.

ALEX (V.O.)

I didn't think much about that day until a few days later. I was walking home from work when I saw the same woman again. She was sitting on a bench, crying.

ALEX

What's wrong?

WOMAN

My husband left me. He took the kids and everything. I'm all alone.

ALEX

I don't know what to say.

WOMAN
